July 18, 2020— Coleman Stewart , who just finished his eligibility at NC State , recorded two time trials on Saturday at his practice in Raleigh, swimming a 44.6 in the 100 back and 45.9 in the 100 fly SCY. Stewart unfortunately missed out on his final NCAA meet this season when the championships were cancelled to slow down the coronavirus outbreak, as he was a favorite for NCAA titles in the 100 fly and the 100 and 200 back. Slovenian Freestyler Jaka Pusnik Makes 2022 Verbal Commitment to Florida State

July 18, 2020— Jaka Pušnik from the Slovenian capital of Ljubljana has announced his verbal commitment to Florida State University for 2022-23. Born in 2003, Pusnik swims for PK Olimpija Ljubljana and represents Slovenia in international competition. Last summer he was a finalist in the 200 free at the European Youth Olympic Festival in Baku. He finished 8th with 1:53.76. Since then he has dropped 2.1 seconds in the 200, his strongest event. He also competed in the 400 free and 200 back.

Coleman Stewart Time Trials 44.6 100 Yard Back, 45.9 100 Yard Fly

July 18, 2020— U.S. National teamer Coleman Stewart posted a 44.6 in the 100 yard backstroke and 45.9 in the 100 yard butterfly in a time trial published on Stewart’s Instagram account on Saturday, July 18th. Stewart stated that the two swims were his first races since the 2020 ACC Championships in February, where he won the 100 (44.04) and 200 backstrokes (1:37.71) and took 2nd in the 100 butterfly (44.92). Stewart was named the 2020 ACC Men’s Swimmer of the Year.

NCAA Sport Science Institute Issues Next Set of Return-to-Sports Guidelines

July 17, 2020— The NCAA Sport Science Institute has released guidelines to help schools with navigating a return to fall sports this upcoming school year, according to a release from the NCAA and a report from ESPN. The guidelines include daily self-heath checks as well as testing athletes within 72 hours of competition in high contact risk sports. Fall sports have been in danger the last few weeks of not being played, and several conferences across all three divisions, including the Ivy League and NESCAC among others, have already indicated their schools will not be competing in fall sports, which ...

July 11, 2020— The Pac-12 announced Friday that fall sports will observe a conference-only schedule in 2020, following the announcements by other major conferences this week. The Pac-12’s announcement comes on the heels of similar moves by the ACC and Big Ten . In light of the COVID-19 pandemic, less travel is hoped to be a factor that limits the risk of disease transmission as college sports continue. The sports specifically covered by the announcement include football, men’s and women’s soccer and women’s volleyball. All athletic activities remain voluntary.

Florida State Announces Salary Reductions, 25 Positions Cut in Athletics

July 11, 2020— Florida State University has announced reductions in 25 full-time positions and pay reductions for most of its athletics staff as part of a 20% reduction in the department’s athletics budget for next year. This comes as universities across the country grapple with the economic fallout of the coronavirus pandemic that threatens the future of college athletics. The department says that there is a “strong possibility” of furloughs to further reduce costs.

March 22, 2020— Jenny Bird , a junior at Creekside High School in Saint Johns, Florida, has verbally committed to swim at Florida State University beginning in the fall of 2021. She will join fellow class of 2025 verbal commits Alexandra Dicks , Ella Dyjak , Madeline Huggins , and Rachel Moran. Bird swam the 100 back (3rd place) and 100 fly (4th) place at the Florida High School Class 4A Championships in November, notching lifetime bests in both events in prelims.
