When 72 Points Vanished in One NCAA Final: The Infamous Medley Relay of 2007
SWIMSWAM
Sept. 5, 2020— The NCAA Championships is one of the most intense competitions a swimmer might compete in, and falls just short of the U.S. Olympic Trials in terms of the cut-throat attitudes of the athletes and coaches vying for titles and a spot in history. First place in a relay at the NCAA Championships will earn a team 40 points, while eighth place is worth 22 points–2 points more than an individual victory. Needless to say, there is a lot of pressure to perform well on relays. The stage was set for the final of the men’s 200 yard medley relay at the Men’s 2007 NCAA Championships. 32 men on 8 t ...

Coleman Stewart Hits 44.6 100 Back in Yards Time Trial
SWIMMING WORLD NEWS

Stewart unfortunately missed out on his final NCAA meet this season when the championships were cancelled to slow down the coronavirus outbreak, as he was a favorite for NCAA titles in the 100 fly and the 100 and 200 back. Coleman Stewart’s time in these time trials were not far off his season best times from earlier this year. In the 100 back, he was a 44.04 at ACC’s and was a 44.92 in the 100 ...

NC State's Coleman Stewart, UVA's Paige Madden Named ACC Swimmers of the Year
SWIMSWAM
April 3, 2020— Coleman Stewart of North Carolina State and Paige Madden of Virginia have been named the ACC Swimmers of the Year for the truncated 2019-2020 season. The awards mirrored those handed out for Most Valuable Swimmer at the ACC Championship meets. Stewart, a senior, ended the season as the country’s top swimmer in the 100 backstroke thanks to his ACC Record of 44.04 done at the ACC Championship meet. That would have made him the top seed at the NCAA Division I Championship meet that was canceled. He won ACC titles in the 100 back and 200 back and was a member of the winning 200 medley an ...

2020 W. NCAA Picks: Brown Eyes Elusive Individual Title In 100 Free
SWIMSWAM
March 5, 2020— Erika Brown has had an incredible rise over her four-year career at Tennessee. After being a relay-only swimmer at the NCAA Championships as a freshman, the Lady Vol broke out as a sophomore, winning three individual SEC titles and placing second at NCAAs in the 50 free and 100 fly. After anchoring the Vols to a national title in the 200 medley relay at last season’s NCAAs to go along with three top-five finishes individually, Brown helped lead the school to its first Women’s SEC Championship win.

She won this event by almost an entire second, a gigantic win for the now-senior at Wisconsin. Nelson returns as favorite again with clear water behind her; she’s the only swimmer under 50 seconds this year at 49.70, and all signs point to another victory for her.
