Mid-American Conference Delaying Fall Sports Until September 3

July 18, 2020— The Mid-American Conference announced Friday that it will be postponing the start of its Olympic fall sports (field hockey, men’s soccer, women’s soccer, women’s volleyball and men’s and women’s cross country) competition until September 3. The NCAA has not mandated a decision regarding the play of fall sports, leaving it up to the individual conferences to make separate decisions. July 9, 2020— Trevor Jones has opted to stay in-state for his college career after verbally committing to Michigan State University for the fall of 2021. He told A talented butterflyer, IMer, and freestyler, Jones does his club swimming with dROP Aquatics and owns the Winter Junior cut in the 200 fly. He earned three best times at Juniors East in December and placed 13th in the 200 fly at Indianapolis Sectionals in 2019. Last summer, he took 10th in the 200m fly at Greensboro Futures where he also finaled in the 100m free.

March 30, 2020— The NCAA Divison I Council has voted to grant a year of eligibility to Division I student-athletes who compete in spring sports after a mass cancellation by the organization in early March, but it did not approve the same relief for winter sports athletes. That means athletes who compete in swimming and diving – which are winter sports – will not get another year. March 11, 2020— 2020 NCAA Division I Men’s Swimming & Diving Championships The NCAA has released its official psych sheets (along with the invite line) for the 2020 Men’s NCAA Swimming & Diving Championships. The meet itself will take place in two weeks, from March 25-28 in Indianapolis. Athletes who are invited are able to swim extra events where they have a B cut – those are the entrants below the invite line on the official psych sheets. The cut-line fell exactly where we projected it – after line 29 in every event but the 100 breast and 200 breast.

Weitzeil turned in a 20.90 at the Minnesota Invite, breaking the American and NCAA Record. At the 2020 Pac-12 Championships, Weitzeil took down the Pac-12 Meet Record in 21.03, but hyper-extended her arm on the finish, causing her to scratch the rest of the meet.
