Kathleen Baker: "First time in a hot second that my freestyle leg was faster than my backstroke"
SWIMSWAM
Jan. 18, 2021— Kathleen Baker made her move on the backstroke leg of the women’s 200 IM, giving her over a second buffer on Madisyn Cox that she was able to maintain the rest of the way. Looking at the splits, the two were very close on all the other strokes, but Baker’s 32.49 back leg made all the difference. The 23-year-old Baker finished in a time of 2:10.30, moving past Cox to become the second-fastest swimmer in the world this year, with only Australian Kaylee McKeown (2:08.23) ahead of her. It’s also Baker’s third-fastest performance ever, having been 2:08.32 in the summer of 2018 and 2:08.75 ...

SWIMSWAM
Jan. 17, 2021— World record-holder Regan Smith from Riptide scratched the 200 back final after placing 3rd in prelims this morning. This decision comes after she won the 100 back final on Saturday, out-touching Olivia Smoliga by less than .20. Smith is entered in no other events tonight. Likewise, on the men’s side, Will Grant of Veritas scratched the 200 back final after decisively winning the prelims heat by a second and a half. He came within 2 seconds of his lifetime best from the U.S. Open (1:59.52), which is the 2nd fastest time swam by an American this season. With only 5 men entered in the ...

SWIMSWAM
March 27, 2020— Beata Nelson was expected to have a monster NCAA’s, from fans, coaches, and herself. She says she wanted to break barriers, and obviously repeat her triple-crown of events from last year. Since the NCAA hasn’t come out with a statement on where they stand on giving winter sport seniors an extra year of eligibility, Nelson is unsure of what her future looks like moving forward. But in the mean time, she’s cooking for her family and working on her 6-pack. Beata Nelson was expected to have a monster NCAA's, from fans, coaches, and herself. SWIMSWAM
March 17, 2020— Year 2 of the International Swimming League is scheduled to begin in September (though, all things scheduled at the moment are prone to being rescheduled due to the global coronavirus pandemic). With a jump from 8 to 10 teams in the 2020-2021 league, and an expansion from 7 meets to 27, there is going to be a dramatic rise in the need for athletes to fill rosters in the new season. In year 1, teams were limited to 32 swimmers (16 male and 16 female) on their rosters, though most teams wound up announcing more athletes than that. In year 2, with more meets probably resulting in more c ...

2020 W. NCAA Picks: Potential for Two 49s in the 100 Back
SWIMSWAM
March 5, 2020— Beata Nelson stormed to the win in this event last year, erasing every record to become the fastest female 100-yard backstroker in history (by a long shot). She won this event by almost an entire second, a gigantic win for the now-senior at Wisconsin. Nelson returns as favorite again with clear water behind her; she’s the only swimmer under 50 seconds this year at 49.70, and all signs point to another victory for her.
@SwimXps Beata Nelson is the favorite 100 #backstroker, but others could join her in the sub-50 hunt
