Which Athletes Might Benefit From the Olympics Postponement?
SWIMMING WORLD NEWS
May 30, 2020— When the Olympic Games got pushed back a year, there was a huge sigh of relief for many athletes who were struggling to find adequate training locations to be at their best this year. So with the Games moved to 2021, that leaves a lot of athletes an extra year to grow mentally and physically to be at their best next summer. Although mostly everyone has been out of the water for the better part of two months, many have used this time to re-evaluate their goals and perhaps recover mentally from the last block of training. As of this writing, there are 420 days until the Tokyo Olympics, ...

SWIMSWAM
April 4, 2020— On Friday, the International Swimming League (ISL) announced a new “Solidarity Program” that would reshape season 2 of the sport’s new professional swimming program, including paying all athletes a monthly stipend from September 2020 until July 2021 as they prepare for the rescheduled Olympic Games. While ISL staff has been tight-lipped about any details, instead preferring to focus on the message of the movement, the league’s founder and funder Konstantin Grigorishin has begun to share the shape of this new look season through interviews. The league was originally scheduled to inclu ...

R. Smith, Andrew Lead Des Moines Money Earners, Smith Leads Entire PSS
SWIMSWAM
March 9, 2020— Regan Smith earned the most prize money of any athlete for a second-consecutive Pro Swim Series stop, and she now leads the entire series in earnings at $13,000. Smith didn’t even swim the season-opening stop at Greensboro, but put up identical $6500 totals in Knoxville and Des Moines to earn the series lead. Smith is still under amateurism restrictions on how much of that money she can accept, though, given that she still plans to swim for Stanford in the NCAA.

Smith & Murphy Lead PSS As 16 of Top 20 Swims of Season Come In Des Moines
SWIMSWAM
March 9, 2020— It’s a backstroker’s world; we just live in it. Backstrokers Ryan Murphy and Regan Smith lead the 2020 Pro Swim Series as the Des Moines stop produced 16 of the top 20 swims of the Pro Swim Series season in FINA points. Smith already led the series by a pretty-much-insurmountable margin. In fact, after her 986-point 100 back swim in Knoxville, we did some fun math to project just how improbable it would be that anyone could beat that swim over the rest of the tour.

Why Splitting the Florida Program is Working
SWIMSWAM
March 9, 2020— There was uncertainty within the swimming community when Gregg Troy announced his retirement from head coach responsibilities from the University of Florida in the spring of 2018 as how the programs would go forward. Coach Troy wasn’t “fully” retiring from coaching as he was just going to focus his efforts on the professional swimmers, including Caeleb Dressel and Ryan Lochte , in Gainesville (be on a lookout for a future article that discusses the pro group more as this article will focus on the collegiate programs). At the finish, however, Andrew slowly fatigued as Caeleb Dressel accelerated past him. At the touch, it was Dressel with the win at 50.92, breaking the 2018 PSS record held by Jack Conger (51.00).
