March 17, 2020— Year 2 of the International Swimming League is scheduled to begin in September (though, all things scheduled at the moment are prone to being rescheduled due to the global coronavirus pandemic). With a jump from 8 to 10 teams in the 2020-2021 league, and an expansion from 7 meets to 27, there is going to be a dramatic rise in the need for athletes to fill rosters in the new season. In year 1, teams were limited to 32 swimmers (16 male and 16 female) on their rosters, though most teams wound up announcing more athletes than that. In year 2, with more meets probably resulting in more c ...

March 14, 2020— Swimming is still going on strong down under, as day 2 of the 2020 New South Wales State Open Championships took place today at Sydney Olympic Park Aquatic Center (SOPAC). Day 1 brought super quick times across the board, including Kyle Chalmers ‘s double of a 1:57 200 fly and 48.2 100m free, but Emma McKeon was delightful as well, producing a 100m free time of 53.00 and 50 fly effort of 25.87. McKeon was back at it big time today, hitting a monster time of 56.36 to take the women’s 100m butterfly in a new All Comers Record.

SWIMMING WORLD NEWS
March 14, 2020— Many of Canada’s top swimming stars are remaining hopeful and confident in the face of the news Friday that the global outbreak of COVID-19 has postponed Canadian Olympic Trials . Part of the message tweeted by Brent Hayden , the three-time Olympian who is making a comeback at age 36, is that, “Things unexpected happen. Looking at the greater good, but my goals haven’t changed. Just need to restrategize.” Obviously pretty devastated but was prepared for today’s decision. Life throws curve balls. March 7, 2020— Yuri Kisil had been so close to making the 100 freestyle final two years in a row at the 2016 Olympics and 2017 Worlds. In Rio, he was 10th in the semi-finals, missing a spot in the final by five hundredths. A year later in Budapest, he was again 10th in the semis, missing a spot in the final by two tenths. Kisil, 24, was training with Tom Johnson at the High Performance Centre in Vancouver, and was seeing great results from his training on the west coast. But after being so close to the 100 free final two years in a row on the world stage, Kisil was getting in his own head.

2020 W. NCAA Picks: Brown Eyes Elusive Individual Title In 100 Free
SWIMSWAM
March 5, 2020— Erika Brown has had an incredible rise over her four-year career at Tennessee. After being a relay-only swimmer at the NCAA Championships as a freshman, the Lady Vol broke out as a sophomore, winning three individual SEC titles and placing second at NCAAs in the 50 free and 100 fly. After anchoring the Vols to a national title in the 200 medley relay at last season’s NCAAs to go along with three top-five finishes individually, Brown helped lead the school to its first Women’s SEC Championship win.

March 5, 2020— Beata Nelson stormed to the win in this event last year, erasing every record to become the fastest female 100-yard backstroker in history (by a long shot). She won this event by almost an entire second, a gigantic win for the now-senior at Wisconsin. Nelson returns as favorite again with clear water behind her; she’s the only swimmer under 50 seconds this year at 49.70, and all signs point to another victory for her.
