March 27, 2020— Per The Japan Times , the International Olympic Committee (IOC) will set the dates for the rescheduled Tokyo Games in about three weeks’ time. March 24, 2020— The Tokyo Olympics are to be postponed for one year after the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and Tokyo 2020 Organising Committee released a joint statement today confirming the news. The President of the IOC, Thomas Bach , and Japan’s Prime Minister, Shinzo Abe , reached the decision during a conference call this morning, declaring that a postponement rather than a cancellation was the best course of action.
