Much like the rest of the world, Indiana head coach Ray Looze has had difficulties processing the coronavirus pandemic that has caused normal life to be turned upside down. Looze and his Indiana team lost a chance to compete at the NCAA Championships and he has had to resort to coaching from home while trying to prepare for an Olympic Games that is now another 400+ days away. But he has put a positive spin on it. “Typically we take the month of August as a break time so we are trying to look at now as a break time. But I feel like this will be a much longer break than any of us are i ...

In his most recent YouTube vlog posted on Wednesday , two-time Olympic medalist Cody Miller revealed to his fans that he and a small group of Indiana pros had been training in Evansville prior to the postponement of the Olympics on Tuesday . At the beginning of the video, Miller shows himself outside of Evansville’s Lloyd Pool as he finds out about the Games being moved back. He describes how over the past two weeks, since the COVID-19 pandemic prevented college swimmers from training at all (he usually trains with the Indiana Hoosiers), he had been alternating staying one night at h ...

It’s a backstroker’s world; we just live in it. Backstrokers Ryan Murphy and Regan Smith lead the 2020 Pro Swim Series as the Des Moines stop produced 16 of the top 20 swims of the Pro Swim Series season in FINA points. Smith already led the series by a pretty-much-insurmountable margin. In fact, after her 986-point 100 back swim in Knoxville, we did some fun math to project just how improbable it would be that anyone could beat that swim over the rest of the tour.

The final night of the TYR Pro Series stop in Des Moines was very much a sneak preview of what is to come at the United States Olympic Trials in June, especially in the women’s 100 backstroke. One night after prevailing in the 200 backstroke, Regan Smith bested a strong field at half the distance with the sixth-fastest time in history. Smith led wire-to-wire in a field that also included former world-record holder Kathleen Baker and Olivia Smoliga , the world champion in the 50 backstroke.

The insane depth of the U.S. men’s sprint program makes the 100 freestyle one of the most intriguing events as Olympic Trials nears. And if that needed further illustration, a B final at the TYR Pro Swim Series stop in Des Moines that features four Olympians should do the trick Thursday night.
