When 72 Points Vanished in One NCAA Final: The Infamous Medley Relay of 2007
SWIMSWAM
Sept. 5, 2020— The NCAA Championships is one of the most intense competitions a swimmer might compete in, and falls just short of the U.S. Olympic Trials in terms of the cut-throat attitudes of the athletes and coaches vying for titles and a spot in history. First place in a relay at the NCAA Championships will earn a team 40 points, while eighth place is worth 22 points–2 points more than an individual victory. Needless to say, there is a lot of pressure to perform well on relays. The stage was set for the final of the men’s 200 yard medley relay at the Men’s 2007 NCAA Championships. 32 men on 8 t ...

The Start Of The Rocket Queen: Italian Benedetta Pilato vs Lilly King
SWIMSWAM
Aug. 24, 2020— 2020 has been the strangest year for all of us – and that includes the sports world. Swimming has suffered a lot, including the cancellation/postponement of the Olympic Games. Now, as we are restarting our training and wading back into competition, the Italian swimming federation has given us some much-needed results to discuss after the Sette Colli Trophy. We couldn’t predict any of the results in advance, but one of the most incredible swims was the Women’s 50m breaststroke. Comparing Pilato’s Sette Colli swim with her own performance at 2019 Worlds, in report 1, shows us a great i ...

This agreement results from the large scale of the operational challenges which the IOC, the NOCs and the IFs are facing following the postponement of the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020. With this in mind, the IOC will continue to offer all IFs and NOC Continental Associations the full content of the educational programmes of the Youth Olympic Games. This will allow for the objectives of this very important and much-appreciated component of the Y ...
