The European Aquatics Championships and swimming showcase for the continent , scheduled for Budapest in May, hangs on a thread today after Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban declared a state of emergency over the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic and locked the nation’s borders. The decision immediately caused the postponement of the Giro d’Italia , the cycling event having been scheduled to start in Hungary this month, the tour having already had to take account of the emergency lockdown in force at home in Italy.

U.S. Masters Swimming Cancels Spring Nationals, Recommends No Meets Until May
March 13, 2020— U.S. Masters Swimming has officially cancelled its Spring National Championship meet in late April, and is recommending a suspension of all competition through April 30. USMS Spring Nationals were set to take place from April 23-26 in San Antonio, Texas. But U.S. Masters Swimming has already called off that event, and says it is strongly recommending that all local Masters swimming committees suspend any competitions through the end of April. That’s just the latest in a long line of cancellations due to the worldwide novel 2019 coronavirus pandemic.

83-year-old beats cancer twice, sets 50 swimming world records
March 2, 2020— At age 83, Hiroshi Matsumoto has smashed masters swimming world records 50 times and even beaten cancer twice to boot.

But the glory from such achievements isn't enough to satisfy the Saga Prefecture native, who swims 2,000 meters on a daily basis, and is determined to set another world record.

97-year-old Master Swimmer set to break record this weekend in Bozeman
Feb. 26, 2020— Over 70 master swimmers from across the state will jump into the pool this weekend. That including Charlotte Sandal from Helena, she’s 97-years-old. If she competes, she’ll be the first U.S. Masters record holder in the age bracket 95 to 99.
