Coleman Stewart of North Carolina State and Paige Madden of Virginia have been named the ACC Swimmers of the Year for the truncated 2019-2020 season. The awards mirrored those handed out for Most Valuable Swimmer at the ACC Championship meets. Stewart, a senior, ended the season as the country’s top swimmer in the 100 backstroke thanks to his ACC Record of 44.04 done at the ACC Championship meet. The Pac-12 announced its Winter Academic Honor Roll recipients on Tuesday, with a total of 152 swimmers and divers being recognized from eight different teams. Overall there were 304 student-athletes receiving the honor, which requires them to hold a spot on their respective team roster, have a cumulative GPA of 3.3 or above, and have served at least one year in residence at the institution. There is no longer a selection process to determine all-academic teams for each sport. The Stanford women led the way for swimming & diving with 18 making the cut, while the Cardinal men had 12. ...

With six of the eight 2019 A-finalists returning from last year, along with defending champion Brooke Forde of Stanford and 2019 runner-up Paige Madden of Virginia, this event will be a battle between many familiar faces. The psych sheets for the 2020 NCAA Division I Women’s Swimming and Diving Championships have been finalized with the line set at 37 & 38. The meet will be held two weeks from today at the University of Georgia. Stanford is the three-time defending champion but will have its hands full with Virginia and arch rival Cal.

The 2020 Pac-12 Women’s Championships continued on Friday with a full session from Federal Way, Washington, but without Cal’s Abbey Weitzeil. The senior sprinter was a 'declared false start' in the 200 free because she injured her arm in the 50 free earlier in the meet.

Cal’s Abbey Weitzeil has already been having a historic season. She became the first woman to ever break 21 seconds in the 50 free, setting the American Record at a 20.90 in December. Weitzeil looks primed for more historic performances this championship season.
