SIU men’s swimming team participated in the Mid-American Conference Championships on April 8-10 and they finished in third place with 588.5 points. Southern finished the meet with school records broken and many Salukis making their personal-best.

The Missouri State Bears reclaimed the MAC title from Miami (OH) last night, winning their 2nd MAC Championship in the past 3 years, and their 3rd in program history. Although their program has since been cut, Eastern Michigan still holds the record for most MAC men’s team titles – 34. Missouri State entered the final day of competition with an 80 point lead over Miami, and they ended the meet with an 80 point lead over Miami.

This is the final session of the 2020 Mid-American Conference men’s swimming championship in Carbondale. Tonight, the team title went to Missouri State University who dethroned champion defender Miami University (Ohio).

On night 3 of the Mid-American men’s swimming championship, Missouri and Miami are the two contenders for the team title. Last night, Missouri swept many events to score big points for the race. Tonight, Miami looks to bridge that gap as much as possible in a tough field. Contested events include the following: 200 Freestyle, 100 Backstroke, 100 Breaststroke, 100 Butterfly, 400 IM and 400 Medley relay.

Missouri State heads into the final day of the 2020 MAC Championships with an 80 point lead over defending champions Miami (OH). The Bears were golden again on Day 3, winning the 200 free, 100 breast, 400 IM, and 400 medley relay. Missouri State sophomore Athur Cury, the 200 IM champion from Day 2, found himself at the top of the podium yet again tonight. Cury won the 200 free, swimming a 1:36.71, to beat out defending champion Pawel Krawczyk (1:37.29), also a sophomore at Missouri State.

Miami began to cut into the Missouri State lead in the next event, the 50 free, where they went 1-2. Sophomore Cole Grosshans won the race with an 19.82, touching first by a large margin of .57 seconds. Senior teammate Nick Ward won Silver with a 20.39. Grosshans was faster in prelims, swimming a 19.79 to break the SIU pool record. His prelims swim was also the 2nd fastest in MAC Championships history.

One of the best swims of the meet came when Mizzou's Sarah Thompson split 21.82 on the 3rd leg of Mizzou's women's 200 free relay B team.
