The Virginia men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams defeated Virginia Tech on Saturday as the Cavalier swimmers closed the two-day meet against the Hokies at the Aquatic and Fitness Center. The No. 2 Virginia women’s swimming and diving team defeated No. 15 Virginia Tech 202.5-96.5, while the No. 10 Cavalier men’s team defeated the No. 15 Hokies 161-137. The Cavaliers won 23 events throughout the day, including sweeping both relay events. Eight different female swimmers and five male swimmers won an individual event at the competition. Mitchell Stroud of the TAC Titans in North Carolina has verbally committed to Virginia Tech. Originally part of the high school class of 2021, Stroud is planning a gap year, and will re-classify and join the Hokies in fall 2022. I’m beyond excited to announce my verbal commitment to further my academic and athletic careers at Virginia Tech in the fall of 2022. Sam Tornqvist set a new Pool Record in the 200 back. His 1:41.70 was within a second of his best and eclipsed the 6-year-old record by a second.

Blake Manoff, who dropped nearly 2.5 seconds with a 1:33.6 in last night’s 200 free time trial, made another big drop. This time he dropped almost 2 seconds in the 100 back, time trialing a 46.89. He also went a best time in the 100 fly, winning the individual event in 46.18. His former best was a 46.61 from last season’s NCAA Championships.
