Three winners from Thursday night at the TYR Pro Swim Series Des Moines are set to show down Friday night in the women’s 200 freestyle. Katie Ledecky earned the top seed in the morning with a time of 1:56.19. She’s chasing her third title of the meet, after winning the 1,500 free and 400 free the last two nights. The second seed is Hali Flickinger, winner of Thursday’s 200 butterfly, in 1:59.16. She’s just .02 ahead of 100 free champ Siobhan Haughey, who Friday made the move to ISL club Energy Standard .

The second day of competition in Des Moines featured the finals of the 100 free, 100 breast, 200 fly, and 400 free. Highlighting the evening was the women’s 100 free final, where Olympic champion and Worlds finalist duked it out after the first 50. Into the finish, it was Haughey who clocked in a new Hong Kong national record of 53.30 for the win. Stanford alum Manuel settled for second at 53.55.

Hong Kong’s Siobhan Haughey shaved 0.02s off her own national record in the 100 free en route to winning the event at the Des Moines stop of the Pro Swim Series Thursday evening. Haughey, representing Club Wolverine, won by 0.25s tonight in a strong field that included individual Olympic gold medalists Simone Manuel and Allison Schmitt . That’s the third time Haughey has broken this record over the past year, having previously set it at 53.59 last April and at 52.32 last June .

18-year old Regan Smith wasn’t the only swimmer who was breaking records in the women’s 200 meter fly final on Thursday evening in Des Moines. US National Teamer Hali Flickinger swam a 2:06.11 in the 200 fly that broke ‘ Pro Swim Series Record of 2:06.76.

The fourth installment of the TYR Pro Swim Series in Mission Viejo will have a wrinkle designed to prepare swimmers for the Tokyo Olympics, with finals flipped to the morning. The announcement for the April 16-19 stop in California was made Wednesday. At the penultimate event in the 2020 Pro Swim Series , prelims will be held in the evening with finals the following morning. It’s an effort to acclimate swimmers to the calendar in Tokyo, where the morning swims will be the finals, to accommodate for the time difference between Tokyo and many major television markets across the globe.
