Jerry Carlson, a high school swim coach in Minnesota for 46 years, died last Saturday at the age of 85. His death came as the team that he founded prepared to swim at the Minnesota High School State Championship finals. Carlson founded the Hutchinson High School boys swim team in the 1961-62 season, according to the Hutchinson Leader. He coached until retiring in 2007 after 46 years. Carlson also founded Hutchinson’s U.S. Swim Club in 1975, now named the High Tides. In 2005, he was inducted into the Minnesota Swimming and Diving Coaches Association Hall of Fame.
