Canada , which triggered a chain reaction to get the Olympic Games moved to 2021 as the first nation to declare that it would not send a team to Tokyo 2o20 this July , has called on FINA to shunt the Fukuoka 2021 World Championships and all other events to 2022. The same message has been sent to World Para Swimming, while Swimming Canada has also announced that it will not send a team to the 2020 World Junior Open Water Championships in the Seychelles this August. Bill Sweetenham , one of the elders of world swimming, has urged coaches and swimmers to “prioritise the Olympics first and foremost” now the dates of Tokyo 2020 have been set for 2021, “as historically no-one, but no-one, recognises or remembers any other result or competition”. The International Olympic Committee (IOC) today named July 23-August 8, 2021 as the news dates of Tokyo 2020, the Games that will continue to be branded with the dateline of this year. Bill Sweetenham, International Swimming Hall of Fame Honor Coach and mentor to generations of champions and coach leader, has called on the worldwide swimming community to rise up and overthrow FINA and the man at the helm of the international federation as its director since 1986, Cornel Marculescu, in the wake of Sun Yang‘s eight-year ban.
