Olympic gold medalist and former Stanford women's head coach Lea Maurer, who guided the Cardinal for seven years, has been named USC men's and women's swimming associate head coach, first-year Trojan head coach Jeremy Kipp announced today.

Jeremy Kipp has added one more name to the newly-constructed swimming & diving coaching staff at USC, and it’s a big one in Pac-12 circles. Lea Maurer has been named the program’s new associate head coach. Maurer, a 1992 Olympic gold and bronze medalist and 1998 World Champion, was the head coach of the women’s program at Stanford from 2005 through 2012. During her time there, she led the program to 7 consecutive top 5 finishes at the NCAA Championships and back-to-back Pac-10 titles in 2010 and 2011. The USC Trojans got a little stronger this week with a huge verbal from Canadian national junior team member Hanna Henderson , who announced she will join the team this coming school year. Henderson is a talented sprinter from Ontario, who swam at the World Junior Championships and won three bronze medals on relays. She swam butterfly on Canada’s medley relay, splitting a 59.16, and also anchored the mixed free relay with a 54.42. Henderson also swam on the prelims relay for the 4×200 freestyle team. Hanna Henderson , who represented Canada at the 2019 World Junior Swimming Championships, has verbally committed to USC. That makes Henderson the Trojans’ first commit since Jeremy Kipp was announced as the program’s new head coach . She is expected to join the Trojans in the fall of 2020, which will immediately signal that Kipp’s recruiting success at Northwestern is carrying forward to his new role at USC.
