Cal Commit Bjorn Seeliger Swims Lifetime Bests in "Stockholm Closed" Meet
SWIMSWAM
March 28, 2020— A group of swimmers who train out of the Swedish capital of Stockholm got together on Thursday and Friday to race at the “Swedish Closed” meet, so-named because it was the opposite of the “Swedish Open” originally scheduled for next weekend. The opportunity was possible because of the uniquely-lax Swedish laws in place to deal with the current global coronavirus outbreak. While earlier this week, the Swedish government had limited gatherings to no more than 500 people, on Friday that number was reduced to 50. The meet was held in 4 timed final sessions (no prelims or finals). Athlete ...

Open Water Olympic Qualifiers from 2019 Worlds Will Remain Qualified for Tokyo
SWIMSWAM
March 28, 2020— The International Olympic Committee has confirmed that athletes already qualified “by name” for the 2020 Olympics will remain qualified for the postponed Games, NBC Sports’ Nick Zaccardi reported Saturday . The IOC had said Thursday that athletes who had already qualified would get to keep their spots — but many of those spots are controlled by national Olympic committees, rather than the international organization, so that news was somewhat unclear. What this ruling definitely applies to now is open water swimmers who qualified out of the 10K race at the 2019 FINA World Championship ...

March 15, 2020— In addition to Kyle Chalmers ripping a 51.37 lifetime best in the 100m fly to become Australia’s 3rd fastest performer all-time, there were several other head-turning swims that wrapped up the 2020 New South Wales State Open Championships. SWIMSWAM
March 14, 2020— Swimming is still going on strong down under, as day 2 of the 2020 New South Wales State Open Championships took place today at Sydney Olympic Park Aquatic Center (SOPAC). Day 1 brought super quick times across the board, including Kyle Chalmers ‘s double of a 1:57 200 fly and 48.2 100m free, but Emma McKeon was delightful as well, producing a 100m free time of 53.00 and 50 fly effort of 25.87. McKeon was back at it big time today, hitting a monster time of 56.36 to take the women’s 100m butterfly in a new All Comers Record.

March 14, 2020— The battlelines have been drawn again between Australia’s premier backstrokers Emily Seebohm, Minna Atherton and Kaylee McKeown who will go head-to-head in tonight’s fascinating 100m backstroke final on night two of the NSW State Open Championships at the Sydney Olympic Park Aquatic Centre. The Championships is one of the few sporting events in Australia this weekend with spectators, family and friends in the grandstands, with the country on the verge of a full sporting spectator lockout from Monday. SWIMSWAM
Feb. 27, 2020— With speculation swirling that the 2020 Olympics are at risk of cancellation over the coronavirus outbreak, international stars Sarah Sjostrom , Katinka Hosszu and Chad le Clos commented on the situation in an interview with The Associated Press. At a recent Energy Standard training camp workout in Italy – to which Hosszu, who is coaching herself to Tokyo, was an invited guest – the trio expressed concern at the prospect. “For the athletes the best (solution) is just to focus on your preparation. … I see the news, but in my mind I’m prepared until it’s on. So I have to be ready ...
