TYR Pro Swim Series: What We Learned From the First Prelims/Finals Meet of the Year Usually a prelims/finals meet in mid-January would be another ho-hum competition in the leadup to the Olympic Trials. But this past weekend’s Pro Swim Series in San Antonio and Richmond was a welcomed sight for swim fans due to the fact it was the first legitimate prelims/finals meet in a long-course venue since March 2020, a week before the COVID-19 pandemic took hold of the United States. USA Swimming held the U.S. Open across nine different sites in late November, but the meet was timed finals only ...

It took almost the entire race, but Ally McHugh finally managed to pull away from Haley Anderson around the 1250 mark of the women’s mile, ultimately winning by two and a half seconds in 16:12.87. The two went stroke-for-stroke for a good chunk of the event, including flipping within a few one-hundredths of each other several times around the midway mark. McHugh also negative split her swim, turning in 8:06.74 at the 750 before closing in 8:06.13. This is the 23-year-old’s third-fastest swim ever, and quickest since August of 2019. It also makes McHugh the second-fastest American in ...

2021 TYR Pro Swim Series: Ally McHugh and Zane Grothe Nail Down 1500 Free Wins Remember Ally McHugh for the 1500 freestyle, when the event makes its debut at the United States Olympic Trials in Omaha in June. Closing out her work at the TYR Pro Swim Series, McHugh put together a strong outing in the metric mile on Sunday night, winning in San Antonio in 16:12.87. That effort was just ahead of the 16:13.09 performance recorded by Ashley Twichell at the Richmond stop. A World Championships qualifier for the United States in the 400 individual medley, McHugh will also look to qualify fo ...

The final night from the San Antonio Pro Swim should be another exciting one — though there will be a few sparsely populated heats. World record holder Regan Smith has scratched out of the women’s 200 back, as has Emma Weyant , leaving just six swimmers in that event tonight. Phoebe Bacon and Isabelle Stadden come in as the top two seeds. Will Grant has also dropped out of the men’s 200 back, meaning just four will contest that race, though it remains intriguing with Ryan Murphy , Shaine Casas and Austin Katz in the field. Other key matchups to watch for tonight include Abbey Weitzei ...

The insane depth of the U.S. men’s sprint program makes the 100 freestyle one of the most intriguing events as Olympic Trials nears. And if that needed further illustration, a B final at the TYR Pro Swim Series stop in Des Moines that features four Olympians should do the trick Thursday night.

The pre-scratch psych sheets for the 2020 TYR Pro Swim Series in Des Moines, Iowa have been posted by USA Swimming. The competition will start March 4 and will go until March 7.
