NCAA Vote: D-I Winter Sports Athletes Will Not Receive Eligibility Relief

March 30, 2020— The NCAA Divison I Council has voted to grant a year of eligibility to Division I student-athletes who compete in spring sports after a mass cancellation by the organization in early March, but it did not approve the same relief for winter sports athletes. That means athletes who compete in swimming and diving – which are winter sports – will not get another year. March 17, 2020— Year 2 of the International Swimming League is scheduled to begin in September (though, all things scheduled at the moment are prone to being rescheduled due to the global coronavirus pandemic). With a jump from 8 to 10 teams in the 2020-2021 league, and an expansion from 7 meets to 27, there is going to be a dramatic rise in the need for athletes to fill rosters in the new season. NCAA Reveals Official Psych Sheets, Cutlines for 2020 Men's NCAA Champs

March 11, 2020— 2020 NCAA Division I Men’s Swimming & Diving Championships The NCAA has released its official psych sheets (along with the invite line) for the 2020 Men’s NCAA Swimming & Diving Championships. The meet itself will take place in two weeks, from March 25-28 in Indianapolis. Athletes who are invited are able to swim extra events where they have a B cut – those are the entrants below the invite line on the official psych sheets. The cut-line fell exactly where we projected it – after line 29 in every event but the 100 breast and 200 breast.

March 11, 2020— During a press conference on Tuesday in Austin, Texas men’s head swimming & diving coach Eddie Reese that the team is going to take 4 divers and 16 swimmers. That’s in spite of having 24 men eligible to qualify for the meet in swimming and 5 divers . The press conference was done before Texas’ 4th and 5th divers were qualified, but Reese said that even if they had 5 divers qualified, they would leave 1 home, alongside 6 eligible swimmers. The line for the cut-off is usually around 29th or 30th place. will publish the official psych sheet when it comes available. March 6, 2020— It’s been a good week for Michael Andrew ‘s butterfly. The 20-year-old hit personal bests in both the 100-meter and 100-yard butterfly within eight days, thanks to this morning’s 51.49 meter swim. Andrew qualified first at the Des Moines Pro Swim Series, shaving .04 off of his career-best with a finals swim still to go. Just last Friday, Andrew knocked half a second off his 100-yard fly best, going 45.47 at the Carlsbad Sectional. The versatile Andrew is still paring down his lineup for this summer’s U.S. Olympic Trials.

2020 Big 12 Swimming and Diving Championships Day Four Heats: Krueger Swims Smooth 42.2 100 Free

March 1, 2020— The last day of the 2020 Big 12 swimming and diving championships is here as the heats of the 200 back, 100 free, 200 breast and 200 fly went off from the campus of West Virginia University. Texas swept all the top seeds on the men’s side as a lot of their top guys are just swimming through this meet as they gear up for NCAAs in 25 days. Sophomore Daniel Krueger had perhaps the swim of the morning with a comfortable 42.21 in the 100 freestyle as the number one ranked swimmer in the nation is ahead of Maxime Rooney (42.56).
