Abbey Weitzeil becomes the third American woman under 25 seconds this season, clocking 24.97 to sit second in the country behind only Gretchen Walsh (24.65). Weitzeil’s last long course 50 prior to this morning came in December of 2019, where she went 24.70 at a time trial in Minnesota. Margo Geer improved on her prelim swim by just over a tenth to claim second in 25.46, while Casey Fanz and Olivia Smoliga tied for third in 25.58. Stanford University has landed another big recruit for the 2021-22 season, this time from Bellevue, Wash. native and U.S. National Junior Team member Amy Tang . She will join Anna Shaw, Samantha Tadder, Torri Huske and Meghan Lynch, as well as diver Lauren Burch, as a member of the Cardinal’s class of 2025. At the 7th FINA World Junior Championships last summer in Budapest, Tang swam the third leg on the winning mixed 4x100m free relay along with Luca Urlando, Adam Chaney, and Gretchen Walsh.

According to NISCA, the tournament is intended to create a fun activity in light of the coronavirus pandemic, especially since swim meets around the country have been canceled. In order to enter, teams had to fill out a form and include their top times all-time for their entries. Each swimmer was allowed to “swim” up to two individual events and two relays like they would in a traditional high school dual meet. The Nashville Aquatic Club girls have broken their 2nd National Age Group Record in as many days at the 2020 Southern Premier Meet. This time, they opened the Saturday finals session with a record-breaking 200 medley relay with the same foursome that, a day earlier, broke the 17-18 200 free relay record . The group’s winning time on Saturday in the 200 medley relay was 1:38.98. That broke the SwimMAC's Record of 1:39.40 .

There were quite a few highlight swims in Atlanta on Saturday, which featured some of the nation’a top junior swimmers. Nashville Aquatic Club’s Gretchen Walsh put up a lifetime best in the 50 free on night 2 of the 2020 Southern Premier. Walsh raced to a 21.50, taking 9 hundredths off her best from the TISCA Championships last month. Walsh, 17, has now moved ahead of Kate Douglass as the 3rd fastest ever in the 17-18 age group.

A quartet of swimmers from the Nasvhille Aquatic Club broke the 17-18 National Age Group Record in the 200 yard free relay on Friday. Swimming at the elite Southern Premier Meet in Atlanta, Georgia, the group of Alex Walsh , Alex Massey , Lauren Hurt , and Gretchen Walsh combined for a 1:29.69. That swim undercuts the old record of 1:30.09 that was set by SwimMAC Carolina in 2015.

2020 Southern Premier Meet The 2020 edition of the annual Southern Premier meet, which brings together several of the best club teams in the southeastern U.S., kicked off on Friday evening in Atlanta. A group of future teammates at the University of Virginia stole the show on the meet’s first night. In the girls’ 200 free, 17-year old high school junior Gretchen Walsh of the Nashville Aquatic Club knocked more than a second off her lifetime best, swimming 1:43.75 to win.

Harpeth Hall’s Gretchen Walsh highlighted the meet by breaking the overall National High School record in the 50 free with a jaw-dropping 21.59 on day one, then following it up with yet another national record-setting performance with a 46.98 in the 100 free on day two.
Her older sister, Alex Walsh, also had herself a meet. One day after Claire Curzan broke the National High School record in the 100 back at the North Carolina 4A State Championships, A. Walsh lowered it once again with a final time of 51.35.

After a dominant first day at the 2020 TISCA Championships in Knoxville where she broke the National High School record in the 50 free, Gretchen Walsh wasted no time rewriting history on day two.
While representing Harpeth Hall High School, Walsh blasted a 46.98 in the 100 free to break Abbey Weitzeil’s overall National High School record of 47.09 set on May 16, 2015 at the CIF State Championships.

Gretchen Walsh stole the show on the first night of the 2020 TISCA Championships in Knoxville. Shortly after anchoring Harpeth Hall’s winning 4×50 medley relay in a blazing 21.20 split, she was back in the pool to win the 50 free in a jaw-dropping 21.59.
